The Walmart in Mayfield, Kentucky, recently updated its shopping carts, but the new ones aren't just better-functioning versions of the old ones. They have three major differences: They're taller, and the children's seat at the front now has a cup holder and a place to put your phone!
The cup holder is a fantastic new feature and while the phone holder sounds and looks good on paper, I don't think I'd leave my 1000$ cell phone in the cart as it would become just too tempting to thieves.
The height as well is great on paper, it brings the child up to eye level for the average person. Making the child feel more comfortable, uless they have a fear of heights, lol..
But another drawback is for short parents, where some have reported having to lift the child over thier heads to put them in the seat only to have to have to look up at them the entire time.
And I'm not sure how it will affect those of us that use the shopping cart more to help hold us up then just a place to put what we want to buy. I mean those of us with bad backs. Something the designers might not have thought of. But thats probably why they were only released to one store so far. As with anything "new" or "different" some people will coplain or maybe these are geuin issues I guess we will see as walmart replaces carts in other stores, with this design or with the old style.
